How do you decide if a pergola is perfect for your home?

It is a question that many customers ask themselves. Unfortunately, pergolas come in various shapes and sizes, so it is sometimes hard to know what type will be perfect for your home’s yard or garden.

The first thing you should look at when deciding on a pergola is the actual dimensions of the structure itself. Pergolas can range from being very small with only three sides to having eight sides (octagon).

Another essential factor to consider is where you want the roof opening located – this can vary depending on your preferred location for entertaining outdoor areas. A patio set placed right next to an open-sided pergola provides plenty of shade while still allowing natural light through onto a table setting. On the other hand, if you want a more enclosed feel but still need plenty of shade for outdoor living space, adding lattice to your pergola’s front or back will achieve this.

Pergolas are built with one, two or three posts that form the structure’s frame, and there are many types of materials used in their pergola & decking construction, including aluminium, timber and steel. Pergola design varies according to the application and function. For example, a pergola in an industrial area will be built with materials like steel or aluminium, while those used for residential areas are more likely to utilise timber.

At Lake Macquarie Decking, we have developed the patented system that allows us to construct a range of decorative pergolas. From rustic log cabin style structures through sleek modern designs such as octagon styles or even gabled roofs explicitly designed for entertaining outdoor spaces.
